The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) has moved another step in supporting the game of golf in Nigeria.
NTDC, knowing it fully well that the game of golf attracts major tourists from the world over recently published a book that covers major golf courses in Nigeria. The book is primarily meant to showcase the over 50 golf courses to foreigners who are usually at loss when it comes to where they can play their golf when they come to Nigeria.
The book essentially covers every area of the game. There is a vivid history on the game in Nigeria and the personality that brought the game to the country. There is a story on how the game relates to tourism in the country. The book touches on the six best golf courses in Nigeria. There are sections on major courses in Nigeria. And there is another section that touches on golf personalities in Nigeria… all decked in their golf attires. Here, you will see the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, teeing it off while decided in full ‘agbada’.
“I have always loved to help golf”, the Director General of the NTDC, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe said. I play the game and I know the hassles foreigners go through before they could book a game of golf. The irony here is most foreigners don’t know where to play the game. They all believe that once you cannot play your game in either Ikoyi or Abuja then you can’t play. I feel sad because I see a lot of foreigners waiting for some three days before they could get to play at Ikoyi. Yet we have over 50 courses in this country.
“I discovered that foreigners would love to play elsewhere if they knew where. This is the essence of this book. It touches on every course in the country. It moves beyond just mere golf. There is a dash of culture in it. The NTDC embarks on this project because of the important role golf plays in Tourism. Truth is golfers are the biggest tourists and we must tap in this booming.
